There was a lot of excitement over Gen Con’s return in 2021, as well as a little bit of understandable trepidation. Covid cancelled Gen Con in 2020 and it wasn’t necessarily a sure thing that 2021 would end up being any different. Three of the four meeples (with Shane, aka “The Corrupt Overlord” being the odd man out) had the budget, the open time, and were eager to get back to Gen Con along with several friends of the Meeples, and that’s what they did.
So what was the 2021 Gen Con in Indy was like?
The general consensus was that Gen Con 2021 was GREAT – but here’s more from the Meeples and friends who were there!
Gen Con 2021 VLOG – Braden Brings the First-Hand Info
Highlights of 2021 Gen Con:
- Rave reviews for a saucy puppet show
- Finally meeting some of the Kobold Cultists in person
- Great looks at some new games
- News of interesting board game tournaments
- Arguments over gunblades
- Some amazing art and more!
This video goes over each day’s events, shows some amazing footage from where filming was permitted, and puts together great experience for those of us who, for whatever reasons, couldn’t make it.
There is plenty of footage of new games played, discussions among the Meeples about what they like most, what they liked least, and what games or companies have them the most excited for the upcoming year and which ones not so much.
In Conclusion
Next year will be interesting, as it will be fun to see everyone back again while on the other hand, the general consensus with everyone we talked to was the limited attendance was actually kind of nice since usually things are super packed and crowded. Everyone felt like they could get around a lot more thanks to the limited number of people, and enforcement of the mask rule kept everyone feeling safe.
This is an outstanding video that shows you what Gen Con was all about this year and certainly has a lot of us excited and planning to head out there in 2022.
Proud to embrace the locally created moniker of “Corrupt Overlord” from one of the all time great Lords of Waterdeep runs, Shane is one member of the Assorted Meeples crew and will be hard at work creating awesome content for the website. He is a long-time player of board games, one time semi-professional poker player, and tends to run to the quirky or RPG side of things when it comes to playing video games. He loves tabletop roleplaying systems like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Werewolf, Fate, and others, and not only has been a player but has run games as DM for years. You can find his other work in publications like Level Skip or Hobby Lark.
