BarBEARian Battlegrounds, aside from being as cuddly as it is fuzzily blood-thirsty, is a four phase dice placement game that has gained quite a following since being fully funded on Kickstarter. It’s not hard to see why this game has gained popularity. The game is good for one to four players and this most adorable boardgame ever (heavily Brownie approved) and a great addition to the Table for Two YouTube series.
Choosing where to place dice, when to gather resources versus mercenaries, and how to counter what your opponents are doing takes concentration and luck together. You need to protect your tribe and be prepared for the fight. It’s a bear-based battle royale and an adorable board game that is a delight to play and to watch.
BarBEARian Battlegrounds is a great two player game. Those who want to know how to play BarBEARian will love Phil’s clear and succinct introduction to the rules (plus Heather’s correction) and the explained gameplay that follows.
This BarBEARian Battleground boardgame playthrough shows the game has layers and is almost as fun to watch as it is to play.
About BarBEARian Battleground the Game
A family friendly game that will get the competitive juices fired up, there’s a lot to love about this game. This game is legitimately fun. The artwork is great, adding that kid-friendly theme over barbarian warfare. And yes, that was a fun sentence to type.
The artwork is fun, the theme is on point for a good family friendly boardgame, it plays well at two or more players, and most important: the mechanics make sense and play well. Many games like this are a heavily luck infused dice game with the graphics and “strategy” just a thin veneer over the top. This is not the case with this game.
There are multiple strategies that can lead you to victory, and you can pivot based on dice roll luck to attack neighbors, horde resources, or change your strategy to give you a better chance of winning.
There’s a lot here to love and the video does a great job of showing how the game plays and the interaction players have during the game.
What Phil & Heather Think
This is one of the games that both Phil and Heather love, and one that has had about a 50/50 split between them despite Phil’s legendary dice luck. This actually tells you how good and balanced the dice mechanics actually are.
Phil’s Take
Game title says it all. Cute & Cuddly with a side of murder (This game is Brownie approved). A very simple concept that is executed so well. That’s what makes this game so good. Tension between knowing you might get murdered, or you might get left alone in a lurch thus wasting good dice. Not meant to be fully robust, but plays so well.
